Advent Day 1 - John 1:14

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us,
and we have seen His glory, glory as of the only Son
from the Father, full of grace and truth.

The Christmas season is already here. Everywhere you go, everywhere you look, the stores, the streets, TV, the radio, and on and on. Christmas is coming. Christmas is here.

It's so easy to get caught up in the season of Christmas and miss the Savior of Christmas. For that reason, we want to contribute a few thoughts throughout the next few weeks to help steer our thoughts, our devotion, our adoration, and our awe toward Jesus, the true Savior who deserves the celebration of this season.

In John chapter one, there is no shortage of incredible truth about Christ coming into the world. But a beautiful summary of the incarnation is John 1:14.

Notice the verse begins with "And." The story of Christmas began long before Bethlehem. It began long before Eden. Back up a few verses, and we see that the Word was in the beginning, and He was in the beginning with God. Then, stretch your mind to hear that He was in the beginning as God.

Take a moment to sit with that truth. The eternal God, who created everything that exists, who breathed galaxies we've never even heard of, became flesh. He who was infinitely above everything He created entered into that creation.

It's so easy to get caught up in the season of Christmas and miss the Savior of Christmas.

The Word is not just an idea. The Word is a person. The Word is a person who is passionate about this world, passionate about our hurting, passionate about our brokenness, passionate about us, passionate about you.

Jesus Christ is full of grace and full of truth. He came to bring sinners back to a holy God, not by force, not by command, but by grace. He came to be the sacrifice that transforms everything about our relationship with God.

Not only did He bring the fullness of grace. He perfectly and gloriously shows us the Father. He shows us the fullness of truth. That means that everything we need for life is in Him. Every answer is in Him. Everything we desire most deeply is not in our family or our career or our achievements. It's in Jesus and Jesus alone.

Our hope and prayer for you this Christmas season is that you would take the time to slow down and behold the Savior of the World, Jesus Christ. "The Word became flesh and dwelt among us."
