Luke tells us that there was man in Jerusalem named Simeon that was waiting for the Messiah to come. The Holy Spirit made it clear that He wouldn't die until he saw the Messiah. We don't know much at all about who Simeon was except that he was devout and righteous.
This is such an interesting story to include in the Christmas narrative. Here was a man who believed God to deliver His people. Here was a simple man, who lived faithfully to God.
God allowed Simeon not only to see the Messiah, but Simeon actually got to hold Christ in his arms (Luke 2:28). Stop right there and think about that privilege!
He held the full embodiment of God's faithfulness and promise in his arms. He looked God the Son in the face. He held the Savior who would rescue the whole world in his hands. And he praised God, who by His grace allowed him to be a part of this incredible moment.
He is the God who shows up where you least expect Him, and He is the faithful One who blesses us in ways we can't imagine.
I love how God is the God of moments like these. He moves powerfully in humble people. He moves magnificently in little ways. He is the God who shows up where you least expect Him, and He is the faithful One who blesses us in ways we can't imagine.
Christmas is a story about God's faithfulness to use every little moment for His glory and our good. Nothing is wasted. Not in your life. Not in mine. No tear, no heartache, no pain. God is the God every moment.
